Chuck Self, CFA
Chief Investment Strategist
Charles Self, Chief Investment Strategist, has been repeatedly recruited by investment management firms to grow assets under management and contribute to investment processes and strategy. Self’s ability to repeat this pattern of success is rooted in his ability to analyze and distill complexity. He is the former chief operating officer, chief compliance officer, and chief investment officer of iSectors, where he increased revenues by 200% in six years and launched a NASDAQ-listed exchange-traded fund. As chief investment officer for the Teachers Retirement System of Illinois with over $25 billion under management, he led the overhaul of the investment program and eliminated conflicts of interest, helping the organization to earn the 2002 Public Plan Sponsor of the Year distinction by Money Management Letter. Self previously managed a $22 billion investment portfolio for ABN AMRO North America. As a member of the bank’s asset/liability committee, he implemented a 50% increase in the bank’s portfolio to lock in extraordinarily high spreads during the Russian financial crisis in 1998. Chuck holds an MBA in Statistics and Finance from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Minnesota with Phi Beta Kappa distinction. Self contributed to Financial Behavior: Players, Services, Products, and Markets published by Oxford Press in 2017.
